SU&SD have embraced a review system which both champions a game's merits and lays bear its flaws, in a way that I find most reviews do not. "As a non-owner of Gloomhaven, I really want to see a Shut Up & Sit Down review of it for the following reasons:ġ) I have precious little money to invest in games - Sole earner, two small children. I know that in the podcasts you've mentioned that with games like Scythe, it feels like your fans are asking you to review it to confirm their own good opinions, but I posted a counterpoint to this already in the forums: I have found nothing but praise, not just of the amount of game provided, but of the quality of mechanics and experiences players are having - where are you even seeing people saying it's not a spectacular game? Or better yet, rather than direct us to others' criticism, why not just play it and review it yourselves? How can you justify avoiding reviewing a game with such a profound and meteoric impact in our community? I myself have done a great deal of research, mostly due to the fact that SU&SD haven't reviewed it. "I have to admit, it's starting to feel like you guys are actively avoiding this one. I’ve done quite a lot of investigation as to why, and it’s not that Gloomhaven is such a spectacular game – even the big fans admit that – it’s more that there’s a truly indecent amount of it." at the time of writing it’s rated as Board Game Geek’s 7th best board game in existence. This response from a commenter on their website sums things up for me in a way (this is all that commenter, none of it is me)
